The Nork Fork Mono - known as Nium, meaning "The People"  in our own language - have stewarded our homelands in the central Sierra Nevada mountains for thousands of years. The North Fork Mono Tribe is recognized as a California Native American Tribe, who still maintains jurisdiction over our homeland of 1.4 million acres throughout lands now known as Madera, Fresno, Mariposa, and Inyo Counties
